Are you asking the Right Question?

People ask questions, get answers, but are not satisfied with the replies they get. You may have experienced it too. Let's find out why does this happen, and how to ask the right question.

We fall into some common traps when it comes to asking questions. It takes more thought and consideration when asking valuable questions than blurting out the first inquiry that comes to mind.

Some common mistakes we follow - Asking a question that was just answered, Asking irrelevant questions, ambiguous questions.

Now the question which arises is- "How to ask the right question?"

There are 3 rules to ask the right question.
  • Enhance your understanding skills, start talking to yourself. Analyze your feelings and thoughts to have a clear understanding of your thinking power. The clarity in your dreams will open your mind to think of questions out of the box. Mastering this skill will not only bring peace in your life, but it could change the way you feel about something.
  • Improve your listening skills. Active listeners automatically improve the quality of their questions. Half of your questions are answered in a first go. Practice it by talking to your family members or your friends. This will not only sharpen up your brain but will improve your concentration power as well.
  • The other most important thing is not to be judgemental while conversating with anyone. Anybody who faces a problem tries to settle it down with whatever limits they have.

To improve the quality of your question, start asking with open-ended-questions like - who, what, where, when, or how. Ask close-ended questions only when you are seeking yes or no answers. Reduce your temptation of asking why? Asking "why" could be defensive and people would avoid talking to you. However, refraining will give you precisely what you are looking for. If you feel gaps, follow up by indirectly addressing the issue.

If you can frame your question in the right order, you will get what you are looking for. The quality of the questions you ask yourself is the direct reflection of the quality of your life.

The art of asking the right question lies within you, develop critical thinking skills to avoid rhetorical questions. Be an active listener, and understand other's points of view without passing any judgment to give value to your question.
